It's that time of year again - "Take Back the Holidays" is back!
As several people know, a few years ago I decided that during the holidays I would travel to new places I had never been instead of traveling to places I had been many times (mom's house, dad's house). The goal: every christmas visit at least one country I had never visited. 2010 is Year 5 of the program. Year 1 involved traveling to DC with my bro to see my cousins. Year 2 I went to see my mom but then Year 3 began Take Back the Holidays 2.0 which involves leaving US soil. I went to Amsterdam by myself over Christmas 2008, to London and Dublin over Christmas 2009, and I am heading to Munich and Vienna for Christmas 2010. Looking forward to some snowy countrysides, cool museums, and maybe an opera at the Vienna operahouse.
UPDATE: flight to Munich got cancelled so I switched to a flight to Frankfurt. Which means I am training it to Prague instead of Vienna. So scratch the Austria visit, I'm going to the Czech Republic!
UPDATE 2!: Weather is still bad in Europe/Germany so I am going someplace warm. A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talkin' bout a little place called Rome, Italy!
This trip will get me to 20 countries visited, and here they are in the rough chronological order that I have visited them. I have visited several countries more than once (England, Germany, US), the list below shows the order I visited the country for the first time. I need to push into Eastern Europe next.
- US
- Mexico
- Norway
- Sweden
- France
- Germany
- Switzerland
- Bahamas
- Costa Rica
- England
- Luxembourg
- Belgium
- Canada
- Australia
- New Zealand
- Spain
- Netherlands
- South Korea
- Ireland
- Italy (I hope!)
Follow along for my normal commentary during this trip then come back in late January for my 5th annual trip to the Australian Open (Jan 14-22).
